What is ozonated olive oil?+
Ozonated olive oil is olive oil that has had medical-grade ozone bubbled through it until the oxygen bonds into the oil’s fatty acids as stable compounds called ozonides. The result is a thicker, paler oil that releases oxygen-rich lipids slowly on skin. OzoMD Ozonated Elixir Oil carries it in squalane, jojoba, sunflower and rosehip so it feels like a light face oil, not a paste. More on how ozonated olive oil works.
How is ozonated olive oil made?+
Ozone generated from a pharmaceutical-grade oxygen source is passed through cold-pressed olive oil until the oil’s unsaturated fatty acids have taken up the oxygen. No free ozone gas remains in the finished oil; what stays is oxygen bonded into the lipid. OzoMD is made in the USA in an NSF-certified facility.
What are ozonides?+
Ozonides are the stable oxygen-carrying compounds that form when ozone reacts with the double bonds in a plant oil’s fatty acids. In the jar they sit quietly; on skin, warmth and moisture break them down over hours, which is why the oil feels like steady comfort rather than a tingle. They are the reason ozonated olive oil behaves differently from the olive oil in your kitchen.
How is it different from regular olive oil?+
Regular olive oil moisturizes; ozonated olive oil moisturizes and carries bonded oxygen that releases slowly on skin. Ozonation also changes the oil itself: it becomes thicker and paler and takes on a brief metallic scent. The two are not interchangeable, and ozonated oil cannot be made without an ozone generator and a controlled oxygen source.
What does peroxide value mean?+
Peroxide value is a lab measurement of how much active, bonded oxygen an ozonated oil holds. It is measured when the oil is made and it declines with time, heat, light and air, so it is a quality marker for the fresh product rather than a fixed property. Using it on your face
Can you use ozonated olive oil on your face?+
Yes. OzoMD Ozonated Elixir Oil is formulated for the face first, and it also works on hands, lips, heels and body. Warm two or three drops between your fingertips and press into clean, slightly damp skin, then follow with the Ozonated Face Cream if you want more. Thick ozonated olive pastes are a different texture; ours is a silky, fast-absorbing oil carried in squalane and jojoba.
How often can I use it?+
Once or twice a day is the usual rhythm: at night on its own, or morning and night under the cream. Most people start with nightly use while skin is settling, then keep it as the step they reach for on off nights once actives return. There is no need to escalate; two or three drops is a full dose.
Will it clog pores?+
The oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it is formulated not to block pores. Its base is squalane, jojoba, sunflower and rosehip, chosen because they are light and fast absorbing rather than heavy. If you are breakout-prone, start with the cream and add the oil a few nights a week.
Will it sting already-irritated skin?+
It is built not to: there is no fragrance, no essential oil, no acid and no retinoid, so there is nothing in it designed to tingle. Many people reach for it precisely because their usual moisturizer has started to sting. If skin is very reactive, patch test on the inner arm for a day first.
How quickly will I see results?+
Many people notice skin looking and feeling calmer within about two weeks of twice-daily use, with continued comfort over the weeks that follow. The first thing most people notice is simply that it does not sting. Skincare results vary from person to person.
With actives and treatments
Can I use it with retinol?+
Yes, and the simplest way is to alternate: retinol on its nights, OzoMD on the off nights. If skin is already irritated from retinol, many people pause the retinoid, use the oil and cream nightly until skin settles, then bring retinol back at two nights a week. Can you use face oil after a chemical peel?+
Yes, once your provider clears moisturizer. Use the cream by day and add the oil at night; both are fragrance free with nothing designed to sting on fresh skin. What do I use on skin-cycling recovery nights?+
On recovery nights, use only the oil and the cream: no retinoid, no acid, no exfoliant. Two or three drops of OzoMD Ozonated Elixir Oil pressed into damp skin, then the Ozonated Face Cream over it, gives skin lipids and water and nothing else to react to. Smell, texture, storage
Why does ozonated oil smell so strong?+
That brief, clean, slightly metallic note when you open the jar is the activated oxygen in true ozonated oil, and it is the sign the oil is live. In OzoMD it fades within a minute or two and leaves no lingering scent, and we add no fragrance to cover it. If a jar ever smells of nothing at all, that is the one to question.
Does it need to be refrigerated?+
No, a cool cabinet or drawer is enough. Heat, light and air are what slowly spend the bonded oxygen, so keep it capped and out of direct sun. A drawer beats a sunny bathroom windowsill.
How long does it last?+
Use it within six months of opening for peak freshness. At two or three drops a use, a 2 fl oz jar is roughly 400 uses. The Reset Duo is sized for about 60 days of twice-daily use, which is why the subscription ships every 60 days.
Safety
Is it safe for sensitive skin?+
It is formulated for it: fragrance free, essential-oil free, non-comedogenic, with no acids or retinoids, and it is also vegan and cruelty free. Many of the people who use OzoMD came to it because their skin had become reactive to everything else. Patch test first, and check with your dermatologist if you have a diagnosed condition.
What are the side effects?+
OzoMD is a cosmetic oil and cream, and most people notice nothing beyond the brief metallic scent on opening. As with any new product, some people find a particular ingredient does not agree with their skin, so patch test on the inner arm and stop if stinging or redness persists. It is for external use only; keep it out of your eyes.
Can you drink it?+
No. OzoMD Ozonated Elixir Oil is a cosmetic for external use on skin, and it is not a food, a supplement or a mouth rinse. Keep it out of reach of children, and if it is swallowed, call your doctor.
Why is it more expensive than other ozonated oils?+
Because it is not a plain ozonated olive paste.
